An HSA, or Health Savings Account, is a smart way to save money for your health. The money goes in before taxes, and you can use it to pay for qualified medical expenses. This includes doctor visits, prescriptions, and physical therapy.

How to use HSA card
Receive the care you deserve, sooner.

What can you use your HSA for?

You can use your HSA to pay for:

  • Physical therapy sessions that are medically necessary

  • Equipment like braces, foam rollers, or cold packs when recommended by a provider

  • Injury recovery or post-surgery rehab

  • Movement evaluations and injury prevention if related to a medical issue

At Formida Physical Therapy, we help you get the most out of your HSA. If you want to use your HSA funds, just let us know. We will provide a Superbill which is a detailed receipt you can submit to your HSA provider for reimbursement if you paid out of pocket.

How to use it

You can pay for eligible services directly from your HSA debit card. Or, you can pay upfront and request reimbursement by submitting a Superbill and proof of payment.

To be safe:

  • Make sure the service is related to a medical need

  • Keep records in case your HSA provider or the IRS asks for documentation

Does HSA money expire?

In most cases, the money in your HSA does not expire. Unlike FSAs, your HSA funds roll over year to year. It is your account and you keep it even if you change jobs or insurance plans.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • If you no longer have a high-deductible health plan, you can no longer add money to your HSA, but you can still spend the funds already in it.

  • Some people forget about their HSA balance or don’t use it before a needed service, even though the money is always available.

If you are not sure what qualifies, you can also ask us at Formida and we will help guide you through it.

Using your HSA can help you take better care of your body without paying extra in taxes. Book a visit today and make the most of your health savings.
